An Indian mathematician and scientist says Zimbabwe can be the information communication technology (ICT) capital of Africa if it invests in research in science and technology.
The visiting Indian entrepreneur and mathematician, Mahindra Davengere said Zimbabwe should tap into its demographic dividend of a young population and invest in its scientific and technological innovation in order to sustain the industrial revolution in the second republic.
He added that the country can emulate India which started from scratch and is one of the leading exporters of technological innovation.
The government has come up with a policy of allocating one percent of the budget to research and development to aid the re-industrialisation of the country’s economy and build its own science and technological capabilities.
Millions of dollars are spent annually in importing equipment and technological innovations which can be made locally.
